Potato & Rice Diet

The potato and rice diet is a very gentle approach to get the body back to a normal diet.

When?

Regarding gastritis, this diet can be ideally connected to two days of a teapause.  If the symptoms are mild, it can even completely replace it. Often, however, it is used as an introductory phase for the examination of allergic reactions, e.g. histaminetolerance.

How?

Actually quite simple. This diet can be followed for up to 7 days, as neither the calorie nor nutrient requirements are covered. For successful results, however, it must be carried out for at least 5 days in order to show significant results as an intolerance.
It is considered positive, because of its easy digestibility which gives the stomach and the bowel time to recover and heal. In principle, only rice and potatoes are consumed alongside water. For extreme discomfort, it is a good idea to start with rice and potato mash. Thereafter, stronger forms such as whole grains and solid potatoes can be added.

What, just rice and potatoes?
I can not do it!

To be honest, I thought so, too. I have even tried a more extreme version since I felt that even potatoes were not so good to bear. That is why I have eaten only 5 days of rice soup and rice noodles, and then the 6th and 7th day I added potatoes. Funnily, I had no appetite the first 5 days, only when the potatoes were introduced.
Nevertheless, it is possible to make this diet creative. Rice soup or puree, rice boiled, sticky rice, rice noodles, rice paper, mashed potatoes, potato pancake, potato baked, potatoes boiled… Simply play with the consistency, but do not add spice, not even salt!
You feel very weak, especially if you have already eaten a bland diet beforehand. I think this diet only makes sense having an acute gastritis.

How can the success be assessed?

I can well imagine that it is revealing if one suspects to have a histamine intolerance. Because of the reduction to only 2 foods and the daily intake of a new food every 3 days, the reaction of the body can be well estimated. In acute gastritis the stomach can recover in the short time. In chronic gastritis it has absolutely no success, has even rather undesirable side effects, since the diet is restricted already.
